Downloading Crash Data

Having identified a dataset of interest, and optionally filtered it, you may wish to download it for your own back-office analysis.  Within the MassDOT Crash Open Data Portal you can download the data in a number of formats including spatial. To download the data:

1. Click the DOWNLOD button above the data grid.

2. Select the format of choice. The DOWNLOAD button will change to a blue animated button indicating it is assembling the data. When your download is ready your browser will prompt you to save your data locally.

NOTE:  You must have pop-up blocker disabled for this site.

NOTE:  The option to download a geodatabase is not available for open year data.

NOTEDownloading large datasets can take some time. Sometimes hours if it is very large. By logging in to the portal you can begin a download operation and simply pick up your data when it is ready in My Data Sidebar. You will need an Esri account to do this.

NOTE:  KML downloads can be quite large depending on the scope of your downloaded dataset.  Be aware that Google will only load a KML of 60MB or less. The MassDOT Crash Open Data Portal will create larger KML files if requested but they will not load into Google Maps.  Consider filtering your data to smaller sizes and download multiple KML files.

NOTE:  Downloads of open data years with large amounts of data, (greater than 2GB), are not an option as Shapefile.
