Searching for Crash Data
The Open Data Portal makes it easy to discover data sets in a large collection. You can search the catalog by key word, capability, content type, and tags. As is standards with search result you can page through and sort the results. The default landing page for the Open Data Portal, as well as the main interface, provide text entry boxes for searching for crash data. To search for specific datasets:
1. Enter a key word in the Default Landing Page search box and click enter. For example, entering "2016" results in:
2. Or: Enter a key word in the Main Interface Navigation Bar search box and click enter.
2. Or: You can further search for datasets by clicking on a Content Type or Tags listing in the Discover Data Panel to filter the list. The numbers in parenthesis represent the total number of datasets in each Content Type or Tag. you can select one, or many, tags to filter your results list. For example, the first image below shows no selected tags - all crash datasets will show. The second image shows having selected the Feature Layer Content Type and the Crash Tag. the results will be any feature layer data set with a tag of "Crash". To de-select a tag simply click on it again.
3. Or: You can further search for datasets by selecting one of the tabs in the Assets Tabs Bar along the top of the screen. If an option is dimmed there are not assets of that type in the portal.
4. Once you have executed a query you can page through your results using the More Results button located at the bottom of the results list.
5. You can also order your results according to relevance, most recent, and name.Simply select your order preference form the list at the tip right of your results listing. The names of the Crash datasets are preceded with the year. To sort the results chronologically simply sort by Name.
5. Once you have identified the dataset of interest simply click on its title to view more details, optionally filter it, and download it.
NOTE: MassDOT crash data is available from 2002 to present. If you are interested in a specific year, simply enter it as a search term.
NOTE: MassDOT crash data is available at the crash, vehicle, or person levels. Each level has a suite of common attributes as well as attributes unique to the level. If you are interested in a specific level enter it as a search term.
