Interface Overview
The Open Data Portal is a commercial, off-the-shelf product from Esri and provides sophisticated filter and download capabilities (in addition to a range of advanced integration features such as API). The layout and use patterns are similar to thousands of other available Open Data Portals. It consists of a Default Landing Page as well as the Main Interface with six key sections all oriented toward searching for, filtering, and downloading data.
Main Interface Sections
1.Navigation Bar (log in to leverage custom user-specific functionality)
2.MassDOT Header Bar
3.MassDOT Crash Data Portal Header Bar
4.Assets Tabs Bar
Once you have identified a dataset you would like to download you can click on it in the Results List to open it up in the View Details panel. This window is designed to provide an overview of the dataset in the Overview Tab and the ability to filter and download the data using the Download options.
1.Dataset Title
4.Overview and Data Tabs (Explore, Chart, and Visualize)
NOTE: When viewing the dataset Data tab, you may have to scroll to see all the available fields. You can, however, click Ctrl+f on your keyboard to search for a value within the web page. Using this you can locate fields that you are looking for quickly.
NOTE: When viewing the data values in the Data tab different browsers will behave differently when rendering empty values. Internet Explorer will, by default, add the word "null" to the cell where a field has no value. However, Chrome will simply leave it empty. Be aware the value is in fact not a true database "null" value - it is simply empty.
